Cheryl Gallant Celebrates Arnprior Business’ 100th Anniversary in House of Commons

Ottawa, Ontario – Cheryl Gallant, M.P. for Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke, was pleased to stand in the House of Commons to celebrate the 100th anniversary of M. Sullivan & Sons of Arnprior, Ontario.  A book, “A Hundred Years on a Handshake,” was recently published to commemorate this amazing achievement.

“This year marks 100 years in business for the oldest family-owned, privately run construction company in Canada,” said MP Gallant.    “It was my privilege to know Tommy Sullivan, company founder Maurice’s grandson.  He built up M. Sullivan & Son in the modern age.”

Based in eastern Ontario, M. Sullivan and Sons went from $5,012 in revenues in its first year, to more than $100 million in annual sales today.   M. Sullivan & Son is recognized as one of Canada’s 50 best-managed companies.

The Sullivans came from an era when a handshake meant something.  The secret of M. Sullivan and Sons’ success, according to ‘A Hundred Years a Handshake’ is Loyalty: loyalty to its customers and to its employees.  M. Sullivan & Son can boast of an employee still with the company after 72 years of service. Not many other companies can say the same thing.

Tommy Sullivan was also a community minded man, serving as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Arnprior, sitting on Renfrew County Council, a director of the Eastern Ontario Development Corporation, and as governor of the Ottawa Hospital Board.

“Please join me in congratulating M. Sullivan & Son as it celebrates 100 years in business,” concluded MP Gallant.
