Petawawa, Ontario – Cheryl Gallant, M.P. for Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke, was pleased to meet Raymond Westgarth of the Renfrew County and District Aboriginal Friendship Centre in Petawawa, to announce $3,500 in Federal Support for celebrating National Aboriginal Day on June 21st, 2015.  The event will take place at Centennial Park in Petawawa.

“First Nations peoples in Canada have a rich, vibrant history, culture and way of life, which should be recognized on National Aboriginal Day.  Funding through our Conservative Federal Government is welcome by the community,” said MP Gallant.

In celebration of Canada’s First Nations peoples, local National Aboriginal Day celebrations will held on Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the Petawawa Centennial Park.  Last year’s event at Riverside Park in Pembroke attracted more than 1,000 people.  This year organizers are hoping to attract over 3,000 attendees.

Hosted by the Renfrew County and District Aboriginal Friendship Centre, the Metis Nation of Ontario, Nigan Ahinabi of Renfrew and Family and Children’s Services, the day will feature traditional drumming, singing, dancing and cuisine.   Through colourful and educational displays, the public is invited to learn more about Canada’s First Nations and their great contributions to this country.
