Cheryl Gallant Challenges Trudeau the Tax Guzzler over Rising Gas Prices

Ottawa, Ontario – Cheryl Gallant, MP (Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke) is challenging Trudeau the Tax Guzzler to admit that higher gas prices are official party carbon tax policy.

“Trudeau the Tax Guzzler is using Tropical Storm Hurricane Harvey as a convenient excuse to collect additional taxes,” observed Cheryl Gallant, MP. “Petroleum analysts have been predicting that gas and other energy products would be far more expensive in 2017, starting with the new carbon tax pricing that went into effect on New Year’s Day. The increase that consumers are paying today is higher than what was predicted after hurricane Harvey hit the Texas region of the U.S. While the storm has shut down many oil refineries on the U.S. Gulf coast, gasoline already in the supply chain should not be affected.”

Rising fuel prices mean rising prices for everything from home heating to groceries, which are farmed and transported using fossil fuels. As the cost of fuel increases, the tax grab on each litre of fuel sold rises also. As a result, there is no incentive for a tax guzzling government to restrict windfall profits as it is feeding in the same trough.

“Canadians would benefit from security of supply if there was an all Canadian pipeline to supply Canadian markets,” stated MP Gallant. “Canadians would receive a better price for our oil, rather than subsidizing American motorists. The U.S. buys our oil at a discount.”

“Under the previous Conservative Government pipelines were being built. Today, no pipelines are being constructed, leaving Canada at the mercy of the weather and an unpredictable U.S. administration, who will supply their domestic market first in the case of fuel shortages.”

“The Trudeau Liberals want the price of fuel to increase. This is the beginning. The reality of the price increase is that if people are finding the cost of food and transportation unaffordable today, it is only going to get worse tomorrow.”

“Trudeau wants Canadians to pay the European price for fuel, which sits around 4 dollars a litre. In Ontario we have energy poverty thanks to the high electricity rate policy of the Toronto liberals. Now, the rest of Canada will start to feel some of Ontario’s energy poverty pain as the cost of everything increases with the rise in fuel costs,” concluded Cheryl Gallant, MP.
