I was pleased to attend the Graduation ceremony of Algonquin College’s Skills Link Program.

All participants of the Skills Link program are to be congratulated on their successful graduation.

The training and skills you have learned these last few weeks will help you succeed in your future.

The eleven graduates from this session of the Algonquin Skills Link Program were John Black, Olivia Davidson, Nick Fortin, Joshua Lagace, Megan Lamarche, Sanish Luximon, Thomas MacKay, Kyle Pelletier, Adam St. Pierre, Stephanie Ryan, and Austin Taylor.

The Algonquin College Skills Link Program is called “Hire Me! Reaching Higher!”, and supports young people who have a high school education or less in their effort to find employment.

The program includes four weeks of employment preparation workshops and industry recognized safety training, plus an eight-week work placement. Program participants are paid to attend both the workshops and their work placement.

Services included in the Skills Link program include: help with resumes and cover letters; interview preparation; workshops covering topics like workplace safety, employer expectations, and customer service excellence; access to both printed and web-based resource materials; and the opportunity to link with mentors and coaches.

I join the graduates in extending my thanks to program coordinator Sharon Leskinen and Algonquin College for operating and providing this program to help Ottawa Valley residents succeed in finding meaningful, long-term employment.
