I was encouraged listening to Municipal councillors who are focused on housing affordability, infrastructure, and community safety. As a result of Trudeau’s Carbon Taxes, reckless spending, and lost border control, Canadians are facing a cost-of-living crisis. We need every level of government focused on real solutions to real problems.

The councillors are advocating for better use of existing tax dollars, so municipalities can support Canadians with the infrastructure and services they need and deserve.

Liberal policies force rural municipalities to compete with larger cities for infrastructure funds. It is time to end Trudeau’s Hunger Games competition for critical infrastructure funding.

The municipal representatives also called for action from the federal government to address the crime and chaos plaguing our once safe streets. Changes to the Criminal Code will end the Liberals’ catch and release approach to dealing with violent dangerous offenders. The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is also seeking meaningful consultations with the federal government on the future of policing in Canada.

Canadians need to have a debate about the best approach to law enforcement in jurisdictions without a provincial police force. Canada needs a dedicated national police force to tackle cybersecurity, terrorism, and organized crime, which cut across municipal and provincial borders.

I was also pleased to hear from municipal leaders that their focus must remain committed to reducing home building roadblocks, maintaining essential infrastructure, and making our neighbourhoods safe again.
