This week a reporter from the activist media outlet DeSmog contacted me asking for comment on a CSIS briefing note from 2022. The briefing note contained factually incorrect information, and an out-of-context quote from a newsletter I had sent to constituents in early August 2021. It is troubling to see misinformation coming from CSIS. More troubling is the source of the misinformation was a Liberal Government funded foreign think tank report, which itself sourced the disinformation from the Liberal Party of Canada’s X account. Canadians expect higher standards from CSIS.
During a week when Steven Guilbeault announced his intention to resign from the Liberal Party over his objections to the Prime Minister’s approach to addressing climate change, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change discontinued the use of the doomsday forecast, RCP8.5, it is unsurprising the climate activists at DeSmog would try to dig up old news as a distraction. As DeSmog was thanked for contributing to the foreign think tank report, it raises more questions about these activists’ involvement in spreading Liberal disinformation.
