October 1st National Seniors Day R

Renfrew, Ontario – Cheryl Gallant, MP for Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke, thanks all seniors in Renfrew for their contribution in building our country.

“I was pleased to attend the grand opening of the new Golden Age Activity Centre this summer,” said MP Gallant. “This centre’s programming and activities will benefit seniors in Renfrew and the surrounding areas as they strive to live healthy, engaged and active lives.”

The Government of Canada is committed to supporting the well-being of seniors, which depends on their staying active, staying engaged and staying informed within their communities. Investments such as the $45 million in the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which helps keep seniors healthy and active by connecting them to activities in their communities. These investments, along with the increases to the GIS, initiatives and to address elder abuse, and $2.7 Billion in tax relief to seniors, are helping Canada’s seniors lead healthy, prosperous, safe and active lifestyles throughout their retirement.

The Government of Canada officially established National Seniors Day in 2010 to provide an occasion for all Canadians to celebrate and appreciate seniors. It coincides with the United Nations International Day of Older Persons.

“Our government is proud to pay tribute to seniors on this National Seniors Day for all that they have done to make Canada the great nation it is today,” stated MP Gallant.
