Today I congratulated the Whitney Seniors New Outlook on being selected to receive funding under the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP). The NHSP is a federal Grants and Contributions program that supports projects led or inspired by seniors who make a difference in the lives of others and in their communities. The centre will receive $9, 422 which will go towards new furniture and equipment.
Through the New Horizons for Seniors Program, the Government of Canada is taking action to enable seniors to share their knowledge, skills and experiences with others. This grant will ensure that seniors in Whitney will continue to have opportunities to participate and in activities and programs.
Since its creation in 2004, the New Horizons for Seniors Program has helped seniors lead and participate in activities such as raising awareness of elder abuse and volunteering on various projects. Recently, the Program launched a new call for proposals for community-based projects. Community-based projects are eligible for grant funding of up to $25,000, for up to one year.
The Government of Canada is proud to support seniors in strengthening our communities and building our country. To find out more about the Program and how to apply for funding, please, visit, Federal Programs for Community Groups or contact me.
