Cheryl Gallant, MP with Diamond Jubliee Medal recipient Darrell Mooney
Castleford, Ontario – Cheryl Gallant MP Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, on behalf of His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston Governor General of Canada, was honoured to present a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal to long-time Horton resident Darrell Mooney.
“Darrell Mooney is a well known Ottawa valley resident. He has volunteered and led many events such as the Blue Grass festival in Horton Township. This event showcases local talent with all proceeds donated to the Renfrew Victoria Hospital,” stated MP Gallant. “Darrell is the current Chairman and fundraiser for the “Healing Garden Hospice Fund” of the Renfrew Victoria Hospital.”
“It was my pleasure to accept Darrell’s nomination from the community. He has been a member of the musical group “The Countrymen” for nearly fifty years. This group has used its talents to assist others, including the University of Ottawa Heart Institute raise over $180,000 the past 15 years,” said Cheryl Gallant, MP. “It is people like Darrell Mooney, who looks for no individual recognition, that make the Upper Ottawa Valley such a wonderful place to live. On behalf of the Government of Canada, thank-you Darrell,” concluded Cheryl Gallant, MP.
