Ottawa, Ontario – Cheryl Gallant, M.P. for Renfrew—Nipissing—Pembroke, rose in the House of Commons today to support all those participating in the 2014 Krista Johnston Memorial Run for Change. The run will be taking place on June 14th, 2014 at Riverside Park in Pembroke.
“I would like to wish all participants in this year’s Krista Johnston Memorial Run for Change a great run,” said MP Gallant. “Krista had a vision of supporting and promoting fitness in our communities, and her friends and family should be applauded for making her dreams come to reality through the Run for Change and projects its supports.”
The Krista Memorial Run for Change was founded four years ago by Krista Johnston. She wanted to raise funds to support The Grind Salvation Army Youth Centre, and youth physical fitness activities. While the goal for the first running was $1,000, Krista was able to raise over $5,000 for the Grind Youth Centre.
Tragically, on October 18th, 2012 Krista died when she was struck by a car while cycling near Ottawa’s Carleton University. Her family and friends took over the operation of the run after her passing, and renamed it the Krista Johnston Memorial Run for Change in her honour. The 2013 installment featured over 800 participants, and was able to raise over $15,000 for the Krista Johnston Memorial Foundation.
They are hoping to see over 1000 participants in this year’s Run for Change.
