Farming Tariffs Dear Minister of Agriculture, The war of aggression waged by Vladimir Putin on the people of Ukraine deserves condemnation. I support sanctions targeting the Russian economy. What is unsupportable are the tariffs applied to fertilizer orders and purchases made by Canadian agricultural producers and suppliers prior to the tariff coming into force. Farmers and suppliers, who purchased fertilizer from Russia prior to the announcement of sanctions, should not be punished for Vladimir Putin’s war crimes. With the rising cost of energy, the retroactively applied tariffs on fertilizer will send food prices even higher.
