In the last election the Liberals promised to ban the use of uber bills, large budget bills with a number of unrelated measures put together. Not only have they broken their promise to ban uber bills, they have introduced their own uber budget bill.
This huge budget bill is 300 pages long and contains a bus load of bad ideas. Some of these bad ideas will hit you right in the wallet right away while others will take time to impact your bottom line.
Next week when Parliament returns I will be giving my speech on this huge budget bill but I need your help. There is so much wrong with this bill that I have narrowed it down to a Top Ten list of the bad things I could find in the huge budget bill, but even ten is too long for my speech.

Our local mayors and councillors are not paid huge salaries like in Toronto, many are overworked and underpaid. Taxing their expense allowances won’t make their expenses go away so local ratepayers will have to make up the difference.

The Liberals are increasing taxes on alcohol this year. That’s bad for our local craft brewery jobs, but they are also putting into law an automatic increase in alcohol taxes every year.

If you’re a contractor or run a small business you don’t have to collect GST until sales are more than $30,000. Unless you drive a taxi in which case you have to collect and remit GST even if you make less than $30,000. The Liberals are now requiring ride-share drivers working for companies like Uber to also collect and remit GST just like cab drivers. Trudeau says it is only fair to make Uber drivers pay the same tax as cab drivers. Instead of cutting taxes on cab drivers who make less than $30,000 to make things fair, the Liberal solution to unfair taxes is to raise them and make everybody equally poor.

The Liberals are already claiming that small, family-run campgrounds having fewer than 5 full time year-round employees are too small to qualify for the small business tax rate. They must pay a higher tax rate than even large corporations. Now the Liberals are cancelling the GST rebates we give to tourists who buy tour packages. Over-taxing campgrounds until they close, and charging tourists new taxes are bad ways to attract visitors to Canada, but a good way to kill jobs in the hospitality industry.

The Liberals took $35 billion dollars from existing building programs, and put it towards their international Infrastructure Bank. Instead of giving funds to local governments for clean water, our towns and villages must now apply for higher interest loans, or sell off public assets and start charging user fees.

Increasing the review threshold for foreign takeovers makes it easier for foreign companies to come in and buy up Canadian companies. Without these reviews we may not know until it is already a done deal if a Chinese company has bought another company which builds sensitive military equipment under the Liberal’s watch.
