Safety is the top concern of those working in the nuclear industry. In 2011, Canadians witnessed first-hand the importance of safety in the nuclear industry after the tsunami and earthquakes in Japan. In the wake of incidents at Fukushima, AECL and the Chalk River Laboratories reviewed their emergency plans and procedures to assure that they are well prepared to respond to similar events, should they ever occur. Ensuring that health and safety of the workers, as well as the thousands in the surrounding community, is protected is of top priority for those at AECL.
