Following reports the Liberal Government has backtracked on a promise to immediately increase Canadian Armed Forces members pay by 20%, I wrote to the Minister of National Defence demanding an explanation for the broken promise. It was with hope and excitement that our women and men in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) received the Liberal announcement of an immediate 20% pay raise. Members have felt unappreciated for quite some. They see no hope of catching up with the cost of living. Many had decided not to renew their contracts, upon learning the Liberals rescinded the immediate 20% pay raise, they feel as though they have been double-crossed by the very country they had sworn to put their lives on the line for.During an interview with Newstalk 1010 radio on June 10, Minister McGuinty said the pay hike would be immediate, “It's about a 20-per-cent pay increase immediately for our members”. When contacted by reporter David Pugliese for the date CAF members would receive the pay hike, the Minister’s office provided no answer while suggesting any pay increase would not be the full 20% initially promised.Reports that the Liberals misled CAF members are disappointing but not surprisingOur women and men in uniform do not deserve another decade of overpromising and underdelivering. ...
