Report from Parliament – August 2016

At the end of June, Canada was host to a meeting with the Presidents of the United States and Mexico. One does not have to read very much of their “Statement on a North American Climate, Clean Energy, and Environment Partnership” to know this declaration is full of...

MP Cheryl Gallant warns of door-to-door pressure sales

Don’t be fooled by misleading pitches for no-cost upgrades I am drawing attention to a recent warning issued by the Competition Bureau about deceptive door-to-door sales of water heaters and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. It seems every...

Trudeau Liberals Approve Ontario Hydro Sale

Consumers are the big losers with the decision by the Trudeau Liberals to rubber stamp the recent sale of Great Lakes Power Transmission to Ontario Hydro (now called Hydro One). Earlier this year in Parliament, I asked the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic...

MP Gallant Defends Family Campgrounds

I am calling on the Trudeau Liberals to drop plans to go after private, family-run campgrounds as a source of revenue to pay for out-of-control spending. This is a direct assault on middle class Canadians. Jobs in rural Ontario are scarce. This is another attack on...

Following reports the Liberal Government has backtracked on a promise to immediately increase Canadian Armed Forces members pay by 20%, I wrote to the Minister of National Defence demanding an explanation for the broken promise. It was with hope and excitement that our women and men in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) received the Liberal announcement of an immediate 20% pay raise. Members have felt unappreciated for quite some. They see no hope of catching up with the cost of living. Many had decided not to renew their contracts, upon learning the Liberals rescinded the immediate 20% pay raise, they feel as though they have been double-crossed by the very country they had sworn to put their lives on the line for.During an interview with Newstalk 1010 radio on June 10, Minister McGuinty said the pay hike would be immediate, “It's about a 20-per-cent pay increase immediately for our members”. When contacted by reporter David Pugliese for the date CAF members would receive the pay hike, the Minister’s office provided no answer while suggesting any pay increase would not be the full 20% initially promised.Reports that the Liberals misled CAF members are disappointing but not surprisingOur women and men in uniform do not deserve another decade of overpromising and underdelivering. ...
